The
Alabama Southern Railroad (ABS) began operations November 20,
2005. Watco Companies acquired the railroad from the Kansas City Southern
in July through a lease agreement. The ABS
consists of 85 miles of track running east from Columbus, MS to
Birmingham, AL. The ABS interchanges with the KCS at Columbus, MS;
with the CSX at Birmingham, AL and with the NS at Tuscaloosa.
