The Grand Elk Railroad (GDLK) began operations on March 8, 2009, as Watco’s first railroad to operate in the states of Michigan and Indiana. The GDLK covers 143 miles running from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Elkhart, Indiana.

The rail line is leased from Norfolk Southern. Three Class 1 railroads interchange with the GDLK along with three short line railroads. Serving more than 55 Customers in Michigan and Indiana, the GDLK will help the area’s economy by providing freight services to the RV industry in Indiana and various rail-served transload services in and out of Michigan.

Commodities shipped on the GDLK include frac sand, plastics, metals, forest products, agricultural products, and aggregates.
